When Suzanne Luttrell from Keller Williams Premier Partners in Vancouver connected with Columbia Springs a couple months ago, we were very excited. They were planning a May 12th RED Day of service and spoke with Columbia Springs about being the beneficiary of this very special event. Nationally, Keller Williams celebrates the birthday of their founder by asking their agents to participate in a day of community service. A few years back, Columbia Springs hosted this event, and we are appreciative they contacted us again.
There were several projects the volunteers worked on, including trail improvements and litter clean up. I was enthusiastic about the Nature Play Area improvements. The site was planned by a nature play expert, and labor was provided by Keller Williams. The play area is meant to encourage kids to dig in the dirt, climb on boulders, and build with sticks. What kid wouldn’t enjoy that!
In the middle of the day, Keller Williams provided lunch to volunteers and staff, and then presented Columbia Springs with a check for over $5,000. The donation is for scholarships for field trips for low income schools; twenty classes will have access to the EcoExplorer field trip with it. This could mean as many as 600 children will get outdoors and learn about life sciences who wouldn’t have had the opportunity otherwise.
